The Third Age Project

10.05.2007

a voyage of discovery in later age:

a group - different shapes and colours,
different sizes

comfort, friendship and
a place to be.

what you seek inside yourself
surprises.

what you find inside yourself
gives you peace.

Carol Moon wrote this poem for the 10th Anniversary Celebration of the West Euston Third Age Project (T.A.P)  at The Crypt Centre, Munster Square, West Euston,  London on June 9th 2007. First published in the T.A.P. Newsletter, June 2007.

First Draft: ARTISTS AGAINST RACISM
....................

RACISM
22.03.2007

Japanese?
What did they do to their prisoners of war?

Black
Kill the bastards!

A Paki?
Eat with us? You must be joking.

An Indian?
Untouchables?

A Russian?
And how is the gulag these days?

A German?
The Hun. Think Auschwitz. Think Ravensbruck.

English?
Perfect.

Carol Moon  wrote this poem in a Purple Poet workshop to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the Abolition of Slavery March 25th 2007.

For WOMEN
by Carol Moon
written 17.02.2006

The Suffragettes
The South American women saving a forest
Sacharov's wife sharing lonely exile
Sharansky's girl waiting, waiting
Mothers loving without condition.
But, isn't all this about love?

Carol Moon first performed this poem with the Purple Poets at the  International Women's Day Celebration, Dick Collins Hall, West Euston, 11.08.2006.

MY MOTHER SAID

by Carol Moon
13 January 2006

My Mother said
Don't be afraid of this day
13 is a number only
And you Little One
Are a fact of living

My Mother said
Don't be afraid of this day
T'is another step for you
To explore all kinds of things

Don't be afraid of this day
My child
Walk towards it, straight towards it
Then, then the trembles will disappear

My Mother said.

Carol Moon wrote this poem in a Purple Poet workshop exploring  superstitions surrounding Friday the Thirteenth.

GARDENS
by Carol Moon
4 November 2005

she hasn't left any food out again not on the blue and white place
drat that cat he's dirty again and looks so he's probably ripped one
of me apart like he did last week but there she is good it's bread
and nuts she looks cold and old and lonely though queer because
the house is big but it's not as comfortable as my house so maybe
I should do a warble through the window pane for her

Carol Moon wrote this poem in a Purple Poet workshop exploring the form of prose-poetry (The Blurb). The poem is meant to be said quickly, without taking a breath. Carol first performed this poem with the Purple Poets at the 2006 Cumberland Market Festival and also read it for 2006 National Poetry Day London Time Bank Guest Poet Richard Price, whose own bird poems isequence inspired this poem.

TO BE ON TIME
(a found poem)
by Carol Moon
Autumn 2005

Important appointment
The pain screams through my gum
The bus doesn't stop
Quite blatently not picking up passengers

The following one drives off as well
Through a veil of pain I hear on the next one
If you don't like waiting for the bus
Take a taxi

Carol Moon wrote this poem in a Purple Poet workshop exploring the technique of 'found poetry' (in this case, specifically poetry found in other people's oral histories). The speaker was fellow Time Bank Member Cass, who very kindly told the Purple Poets his story.

Time Banks and Time Banking
The Four Core Values.

1. We treat people as assets.
We support the positive actions people can
and want to do for their community.

2. We are re-defining work
Regardless of the task,
everyone's time is valued equally
we value whatever it takes to make
neighbourhoods safe and vibrant.

3.We reciprocate.
We require that everyone gives something back
ensuring all in our society have the opportunity
to be involved in their community.

4. We support the development of social networks.
These require ongoing investments of social capital
generated by trust, reciprocity and civic engagement.
