please note: This fire alarm is (or is NOT - fill in for your building) connected to the fire department. It is also sensitive to workman's dust. If you know dust has set it off and you are certain there is no fire, please post a notice to tell people and call the on site supervisor. If there is a fire, please ring the fire department.

FIRE PREVENTION
Chenies Street Chambers

Please keep all fire doors closed (and close them whenever you see them open). The double doors leading to each corridor are fire doors. These doors are designed to keep you safe, in case of fire, but they only work if they are closed. Some have a design fault, in that they remain open if you use the left-hand door rather than the right-hand door. Please check to be sure they have closed properly behind you.

Please remove all rubbish from communal corridors.
Abandoned furniture and large decorative items may present a fire hazard and may prevent people from easily escaping in case of a fire.

IN THE EVENT OF FIRE

The ONLY fire exit is through the Main Entrance, out on to Huntley Street.

Get away from the fire as quickly and safely as possible.

Do not use the Lift.

Do not attempt to fight the fire yourself.

If you can leave safely: Leave Immediately.
If you can safely and easily exit down the stairs and through the Main Entrance to the street, do so immediately.

If you can't leaveand the fire isn't in your flat: Remain In Your Flat, with the outside door to your flat closed.
(this door is also a fire door).

If you remain in your flat: Call the fire department and let them know where you are (which flat you are in).
DO NOT try to exit to the Garden or the Roof.
These are not fire exits and you may become trapped.

If you have had a fire you think has been put out, do not open the windows to air the room.
