STAINED GLASS WINDOW CYCLE

by The PURPLE POETS
This cycle will be performed
at the 2010 Saint George's Day celebration
April 23, 2010  Crypt Centre, Munster Square
The Crypt Centre April 23rd 2010

PATSY READS
I AM THE ARTIST:

Look! Look up!

You can see Christ
on a Green Map of England

In the middle
I put Saint George
And at George's feet
A splendid green-headed dragon
With Golden scales
The colour of corn

The colour of the sunlight
That streams through my window

I have never seen
a stained glass window
I didn't love.

Look!
Even the dragon is beautiful

STEVE READS:
I AM THE DRAGON

From the beginnings of time
My reptile frame goes from place to place
I enter early realms to feast
Upon the living for they are
My salvation. Saint George and
I have fought many times
Brushing and cutting my hide

EPPIE READS:
I AM THE VIRGIN PRINCESS

I am the Virgin Princess,
So young, so beautiful,
my flowing wavy hair, slim figure,
very charming eyes,
blue as the cloak of the Virgin Mary,
looking so gracious,
and humble of heart.
But one day
while walking by the river
suddenly came the fierce Dragon
to attack me
So Scared, don’t know where to go,
crying for my mother
Help! Help! Help!

NAHAR READS:
I AM THE MOTHER

I am the Mother of the Virgin Princess.
The best gift of God to me was my daughter.
When i saw the dragon
The ugly, vicious, smelly dragon,
My heartbeat increased
I could not breath for the foul smell
for the smoke
And I prayed for Saint George
to save my daughter

ISLAM READS:
I AM SAINT GEORGE

I am Saint George
The Patron Saint of England
Who killed the Dragon and
Saved the Virgin Princess
In front of her parents

If I could not fight off the Dragon
There would not be any more England!

When I saw the Dragon
All my blood was boiling
Out of anger and revenge
I pierced its ugly vicious skin
and yellow eyes,
slashing, screaming
to stop the fire

I Killed the Dragon
the Eternal Demon of England
Because of my very Christian Faith.

STEVE READS:
THE END OF THE DRAGON

His silver armour and sharp sword
Drain my yellow blood to the ground
His sharp sword fouls me in one
Sharp stroke sending me back
Into infinity, his blond hair
And silver armour forever hurt me
As I die forever.

SHELAGH READS:
I AM THE LIGHT

Listen to me.
Jesus is Love.

All things that have been done
in my name

--in the name of Christ--
are not always the things I would have done.

Humans do not truly understand
The Ways of The Lord

They wish to destroy
As did the dragon

I tell you again:
Jesus is Love.

Thou Shalt Not Kill.

Follow my example.

PATSY READS:

I AM MARGARET ROPE:

This is my window
Made for the men and boys
Of Saint Augustine's Church

Jesus on high
Saint George
and the Dragon

And at the bottom, looking up,
Two Priests
And four choir boys
Freshly scrubbed.
all holding candles.

I know these boys.
You know them too.
They love playing with fire.

They are looking at the dragon,
And the sword.
Each one dreaming
He is Saint George.

Saint George or the Dragon
St. George's Day, 2006

by Patsy Futatsugi
06.04.2006

It was a task and of course I was scared.
I was the demon slayer
I lie awake at night feeling the hot flames
hearing the cries: Fire; Fire; Fire

This old fable has always been easy.
Handsome George
On a beautiful horse
Killing something ugly

Keeping the world safe.
No one wonders what I will do
When there are no more
Monsters left to slay.

Always hoping this will be the last,
I go on killing;
Killing; killing
Breathing fire.

SAINT GEORGE FOR ENGLAND! [fivepoems]
by Kathy Randle
Saint George's Day 2006

1. SAINT GEORGE FOR ENGLAND!
by Kathy Randle
Saint George's Day 2006

St. George for England!
What a Saint! A Dragon Slayer!
Let's give a cheer
And down a beer
For current Georges (and Georginas)
Who slay the Dragons
Of Poverty and Hunger
And fight for  Righteous Causes.

2. The Case For
by Kathy Randle
Saint George's Day 2006

The brave Saint George!
Or so they say!
Not much use
To us today.
All the dragons
Gone away.
Or have they? Wait a bit
There are some left I think
What about the demon drink?
And drugs and gambling
And muggings and rape?
Perhaps we should ask
Saint George for help.

3. The Case Against
by Kathy Randle
Saint George's Day 2006

Saint George For England!
I don't think
No more dragons to slay
So let him sink
Into the mist of fable
And promote Saint Alban
-much more stable!-

4. An Innocent Bystander
work-in-progress 2006
by Kathy Randle

What have I done to deserve this?
I was just doing my own thing
Devouring maidens and frightening villagers
When along comes this "gallant" knight
Who I have to fight ....

5. The Maiden's Tale
by Kathy Randle
19.04.2007

Dad said I had to go
And be eaten by a Dragon

Well, that didn't suit me at all
There were lots of parties
And dancing in The Hall

But someone had to be sacrificed
For the sake of The Village
Why me? Of course I'm a Virgin

Perhaps The Dragon won't be hungry
I do hope so.

Saint George, 2007
By Serajul Islam Molla
12.04.2007

What a warrior,
Killed the Dragon
To Save Our Queen
From the Clutches of the
Monster Dragon!
Well done George
You could be an Englishman.

The Real St. George
by Bithi Das
12.04.2007

St. George.
I saw his statue first in Zagreb
Underneath his feet was lying The Dragon

His eyes so fierce-full to kill The Dragon
The Dragon's eyes were on him
Asking for mercy.

Above him,
The Little Red Flag was flying bravely
Courage and braveness.

Dragon-Slayer
Ferdous Rahman
19.04.2007

Magic or Myth!
Which do you believe?
It happened in the past
An angelic Saint with a red cross

Dragons protect us in the East
In the West it's a wicked Beast
Oh St. George you made
The impossible the reality
Rescued people from eternity.
