Garden/Courtyard
(initial draft: April 2002)
This is an on-going project to renew the Garden. The commal gathering
of information was begun 01.05.2002 to find out what people liked and disliked
about the courtyard. After gathering their opinions for a month, this includes
various ideas for the use of the Courtyard.
STAGE ONE: Designated Green Area - No Weedkiller
(May 2002)
Ask permission from your District Housing Manager (in our case, Marek Wiluzynski)
and then post this sign.
STAGE TWO : - Tree Preservation (May 2002)
advice on how to have a Tree Preservation Order placed on your tree.
STAGE THREE: Jubilee Garden Project (June 2002)
Ask permission from your District Housing Manager (in our case, Marek Wiluzynski)
and then post this sign.
STAGE FOUR- planning a permanent
garden (and applying for grants) (October 2002) includes recommended
suppliers for organic gardening.
Noise Study (initiated June 2002).
A study to see how everyday noise affects, or doesn't affect, your
neighbours, promoting tolerance and understanding amongst neighbours. One
problem, two sources:
The amplification of noise on hard surfaces (roads, cement,
walls, asphalt) is the root of the problem for outside noise. The two
sources are:
ONE: The Drill Hall Theatre, opposite our building.
TWO: the inner communal garden area (in both
cases, the people most affected are the third story flats in our building;
these flats don't have double glazing).
Solution to Problem Source One: Get the Drill Hall to close their windows
(which are double-glazed. When they close their windows, the noise problem
disappears.
Solution to Problem Source Two: (Garden) grow climbing plants on walls and
plant ground cover and turf over ground areas where possible, to break up
the hard surfaces. Recommend double-glazing for flats affected.
