PURPLE POETS
AND THE MAYOR OF CAMDEN
The Purple Poets have had the pleasure
of reading to several Mayors of Camden over the years,
starting with our very first 2006 National Poetry Day Celebration.
The new 2010 - 2011 Mayor of Camden,
Councillor Jonathan Simpson
is a Councillor for the King's Cross ward of Camden.
The Mayor's chosen charity this year is The Roundhouse,
and his special interest is Music.
More about the Mayor (this is a pdf.file)
Mayor Simpson will launch the Poetry Tree at Cumberland Market
on Saturday, June 26 th at 12:30, at the Cumberland Market Midsummer Picnic
(co-produced by The West Euston Time Bank and the Wellcome Trust Collection).
Later in the year, Mayor Simpson (and the Purple Poets) will be attending
Camden's Annual Hiroshima Day Commemoration
which takes place every August 6th
in Tavistock Square at noon.
To celebrate National Poetry Day,
the Mayor will also be co-hosting the 2nd Annual
Camden National Doetry Day celebrations
with the Purple Poets on October 8th at the Camden Town Hall.
Send us a poem on a postcard!

Time Banks and Time Banking
The Four Core Values.
1. We treat people as assets.
We support the positive actions people can
and want to do for their community.
2. We are re-defining work
Regardless of the task,
everyone's time is valued equally
we value whatever it takes to make
neighbourhoods safe and vibrant.
3.We reciprocate.
We require that everyone gives something back
ensuring all in our society have the opportunity
to be involved in their community.
4. We support the development of social networks.
These require ongoing investments of social capital
generated by trust, reciprocity and civic engagement.
